Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 connection issues
If you have purchased a Dell XPS laptop recently (Jan 2012) then the chances are you will probably have the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 card. If like me you also asked for Bluetooth you will have been supplied with a combo card. There is an issue with this combo card in that the Bluetooth prevents wireless from working properly. So, if you’re having big problems with your WIFI connection such as lack of connectivity, dropped connections, inconsistent speeds etc then try disabling your Bluetooth radios and see what happens. If you call Dell they will try and fob you off by changing the Bluetooth discovery settings, but this does not work and WIFI speeds are twice as slow with Bluetooth enabled. Try running a speed test with Bluetooth enabled and then disabled.
